About the Artist - Katie Pelikan
Pelikan Print Co. started in 2018 as a way for me to make time for intuitive drawing and continue the craft of screenprinting. It's a celebration of the natural world simplified into calm and mysterious forms. Folk art, to me, has always been the way that humans capture the essence of something rather than its accuracy. It can be strange and charming all rolled together.
I'm inspired by ancient pottery, pictorial quilts, and medieval tapestries — especially from my British and Czech ancestry.
I work full time as an artist and freelance graphic designer. Your support allows me to continue to make things that decorate your bodies and homes! It also sustains the lifestyle of my two spoiled cats, Toro and Mowgli.

about the process
Screenprinting
Screenprinting (also known as silkscreen printing or serigraph printing) is an ancient process that originated in China to transfer designs onto fabric. Images are created by pushing ink through a kind of stencil burned into a screen. Ink colors are mixed and layered one by one to create the final design. It was intended as a way to create multiples — but each print is always an original! There are always small traces of the artist's hand in the process. All my prints are signed and limited edition.

About the process
Embroidery
All the embroidered goods are a collaboration with my Dad and our embroidery machine. Each design goes through meticulous testing before it's ready to sell, and each hat is loaded onto the machine one by one. Then it's time for trimming stitches and hand-cutting patches. It's not the fastest process, but we like to ensure everything is good quality and will last for many adventures.
